About Dericee Hamilton

Dericee Hamilton

“For as long as I can remember, I have been passionate about helping people look and feel their best. I can recall times where I would observe my mom. She was a hairstylist and she ran her own Salon. I knew that I wanted to be just like her.

To accomplish my dream, I attended Cosmetology School at MJ Murphy Hair School in Saginaw, MI, obtained my license, and began to build a name for myself throughout my community. Life circumstances lead me to Grand Rapids, MI.

When I moved all I had was a mattress, a TV and a card table which I used as a dining room table. I did not have a job so I searched places where I could work and utilize my cosmetology license. For a year I worked at a salon, paying booth rent and building my clientele.

In 1996, I opened Shani’s Salon which means Gifted Hands. My mission is to bring the best level of customer service to my clients with the goal to help them feel confident in their own skin.

After working in cosmetology for over 30 years, I decided that it was time to challenge myself to learn more and offer more services to my clients. I attended, Douglas J Aveda in Grand Rapids, MI to become a Licensed Esthetician.

As a Licensed Cosmetologist and Esthetician, I specialize in offering my clients permanent makeup, eyelash extensions, nonsurgical body shaping, and total body waxing.”

About the Academy

“In addition to expanding the services I am able to offer my clients, I decided I wanted to share my knowledge and expertise with others. Just recently, I started Shani’s Academy. I currently offer two courses, Eyebrow Microshading and Eyelash Extensions. My goal with the Academy is to begin creating opportunities for my Academy students to be able to work with me while they build up their clientele.”
